Stinging nettle (Urtica dioica) is a wonderful medicinal plant that grows plentifully all over Canada. Although you may have encountered it on a nature walk and noticed the sting that gives its name, if you cook or dry it the sting disappears (just wear gloves when foraging!).
It's nutritive and restorative - so great for boosting a tired body with energy and nutrients. Excellent in pregnancy for this reason, and because it helps to ease swelling from water retention.
The diuretic action of the leaves also make it a great support for the kidneys, and the seeds are known to be a wonderful kidney tonic as well.
As a natural anti-histamine, nettle is a staple for naturally managing seasonal allergies.
Steep fresh or dried nettle in hot water and enjoy as a tea. It has a rich and earthy flavour, and blends well with other herbs.
