I love lavender – it is one of my go-to herbs for calm and comfort. It is gentle yet powerful, aromatically delightful and instantly soothing. It calms the mind and supports relaxation. The essential oil is something I always have in the cupboard, great for diffusing alone or in combination with other soothing aromas. A few drops on the pillow, or just a quick wafting inhale before bed can help ease you into a relaxed and rejuvenating slumber. I also enjoy just a small amount of dried lavender flowers infused in a tea (it is very flavourful so use moderation) - tulsi and lavender is one of my favourite combinations. You can also take lavender in the form of a tincture (alcohol-based botanical extract) or capsule.
Lavender has been clinically shown to be effective in the treatment of anxiety, depression with anxiety, postpartum depression, and disturbed sleep.
Bonus: Lavender can also help keep bugs at bay - useful to use in a homemade bug repellant or to pack with wool clothes being put away for the summer.
